DIY budget friendly entryway update

Hi friends,

In the short time since I posted last hubby and I have been able to tackle the start of our entryway/stairway “freshen up”. We have completed wall 1/3.I envisioned something simple, timeless & inexpensive. I wanted to do something other then just paint to freshen up the walls but I also didn’t want to break the bank while doing it. I ended up deciding on board& Batten with pre primed 1×2’s from our local RONA to make easier for my sake just like in my previous post on the fireplace refresh.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • Paint – I used Simply White by Benjamin Moore
  • Paint brushes, roller & paint tray
  • Nail gun – 2in nails for your brad nailer
  • 1×2’s – I bought pre primed but you could do natural as well
  • wood putty & putty knife
  • Sandpaper -low grit
  • Tape measure
  • Level

First we painted 3 coats of  simply white and let dry.

Kelson then took the length of the wall and divided it by the number of wood strips we were going to put up in order to get the correct/equal distance between them.

We then cut the strips to the correct lengths, measured our distance accordingly and held the strips on the wall. Once we found them to be level when then brad nailed it to the wall. When you start the next board you measure for the middle of the last board in order to get the same distance in between. We did the same steps for all of the boards.

I then went in with a putty knife and puttying filled all the brad nail holes. Once dry around 4 hours later I sanded the putty spots with a low grit sandpaper and then I added one coat of Simply white over top of the boards.

If you have an questions about this process feel free to contact me!
